Updated Wednesday, 4.15.2009: Yippee!!...Maddie has been adopted! Thank you, thank you, thank you to Jean and Bob for saving Maddie by giving her her second chance at "happily ever after." You are both such loving and caring people...real-life heroes! Our hearts can rest easy knowing that you will cherish and protect "your baby" for the rest of her life. And, by adopting Maddie, you also save the life of one more: Maddie plus one!! Thanks again :)) Listed on Sunday, February 8, 2009: BESCM does not operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Maddie was an "out-of-timer" pulled from Waterbury Animal Control (in CT) -- perhaps an hour before she was to be euthanized. While she was an "owner surrender," she was in horrible physical condition and extremely hand-shy, usually an indication of prior abuse. Maddie weighs 11 lbs, is 10 1/2 inches at the shoulder, and is a very young 9-10 years old. To learn more about Shih Tzus (life expectancy, care, etc.), we suggest you start by visiting www.dogbreedinfo.com/shihtzu.htm. Maddie would love to be your everything. She loves to go for walks and is surprisingly quick for having such short legs. She is still somewhat hand-shy and would do best in a family without small children. Maddie should be available for adoption in around a week. Updated Thursday, 2.26.09: Maddie has an adoption pending. Unfortunately, we've had to put her adoption on hold for one month so that Maddie can be treated for Lyme (detected in her final pre-adoption check-up). If Maddie's adoption does not go through, we will let you know that she is once again available.
